Each time a year ends, we think over the past year and make promises to ourselves about what we want to achieve in the year ahead. More often than not, our goals are based on our bodies or our personal lives – but what about our skin? Our skin covers and protects our entire body so why don’t we give it the attention it deserves? It’s time we set our priorities straight and make new year skin care resolutions for 2021!
How Can We Take Proper Care of Our Skin?
We have decided that this is the year we finally make the health of our skin a priority but how do we actually do that? There is more to it than just slapping on a moisturizer and calling it a day. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and there are many things we can do to keep it in optimal health.
Drink Plenty of Water
Drinking enough water is essential for keeping our skin hydrated and functioning properly. Aim for two litres of water a day, spread evenly throughout the day.
Get Enough Sleep
According to a study by Dr. Elma Baron, not getting enough sleep not only negatively affects the health of your skin but also accelerates the ageing process.¹ If there was ever a good reason to get back in bed, this is it!
Eat Healthy
What we eat is reflected in our skin. Having a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables while avoiding highly processed foods and refined sugars can help our skin feel its best.
Wash Your Face and Moisturize Before Bed
Washing our face before bed helps rid the skin of any impurities. Applying a good moisturizer like SkinMD gives our skin a chance to renew overnight. Even if we’ve had a busy day, we should take the extra two minutes to wash and apply a good moisturizer and our skin will thank us for it.
Use and Apply a Face Moisturizer Correctly
While it’s important to apply the right kind of facial moisturizer, it’s also beneficial to apply it the right way. When applying, massage it in gently using circular and upward motions, starting from the neck. This will help to boost circulation and help our skin to absorb the product better.
Use SPF
To help protect our skin from the sun’s UV rays, it’s important that we use a product with a recommended SPF15 or higher to protect our skin from sun damage.
Clear Out the Cabinet of Old Skin Care Products
Throughout the year we may have grown our collection of skin care products only to realize they don’t actually work for our skin. Have a clear-out of old and ineffective products you might have and replace them with high quality, moisturizing products you know are good for your skin.
Don’t Feel Overwhelmed
Taking care of our skin doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Having the right skin care products can make the process so much simpler. Using a shielding moisturizer like SkinMD means our skin will get the hydration it needs while being protected from irritants and impurities in the air, as well as damage from the sun with its built-in SPF.
This year, by making new year skin care resolutions we are choosing to look and feel younger, healthier and happier. Who wouldn’t want that?
