At-Home Beauty Doesn’t Have to Be Hard

|

Being stuck at home can cause anxiety. It feels like we don’t have control over what’s going on around us. This can be a little scary but a little self-care can go a long way. Doing your own facial steps at home can calm you down and you can be in your own happy world for however long you want - you deserve it! Practice makes perfect so give it a try - this is our normal for now.

So Where to Start?

Step 1: Start with a Cleanse

Grab your favorite cleanser. Follow the directions on the back of the bottle and if you can, double up that cleanse! Clean your face twice to really get in there. The first cleanse will get the surface dirt and oils (or any excess cosmetics) off. While the second can go a little deeper, cleansing your pores. (Pro-tip: Try using a microfiber towel and pat dry the skin, don’t rub! That creates wrinkles!)

Step 2: Exfoliate

Time to exfoliate. Let’s get those excess oils scrubbed away in order to ensure that you get the most out of the other products. You can use a lightweight exfoliating scrub or a low powered hand exfoliator.

Step 3: Mask

When choosing your face mask, make sure to base it on your current skin issues. If you’re oily and prone to breakouts, reach for one that is clay-based or contains vitamin C. For soothing lines, use a mask that’s formulated with peptides and antioxidants. If hydration is your goal, sheet masks are great. While you’re masking, throw some cucumbers on the eyes for the full effect.

Step 4: Steam

A recent innovation are portable steamers for the face. But not everyone wants or needs another machine in their bathroom. To mimic the same effect, fill a bowl with water and put it over the stove to let the water boil. Once the water is hot, pour that water into another bowl in the sink and place your face in the steam, works just as great and it’s free! (Note: Make sure not to get too close while it's too hot).

Step 5: Moisturize and Massage

Moisturizing is one of the most important steps. Grab your favorite moisturizer (mine is Skin MD Shielding Lotion) and massage that right in! Zen out for a bit. Jade rollers are a fun tool to use, especially if it’s been in the freezer.

Create a spa-like environment. Whether it’s lighting some candles, playing a chill playlist, putting your diffuser on with your favorite essential oils or all of the above.
